The Catholic Church plays a gargantuan role in providing global medical services to the poor

Statistics have indicated that the contribution of the Catholic Church to healthcare services globally is about 25 per cent but in parts of Sub-Saharan African, this rises as high as 40-70 per cent especially in isolated rural areas. The contribution of Irish missionaries to the development and provision of these services throughout Africa is inestimable. It is common for people there to seek Catholic "mission hospitals" because of the reputation they have for the provision of holistic care to patients.

As has been the case every year, the Catholic Center for Studies and Media (CCSM) in Jordan has held, a symposium marking “this year’s season of harmony,” titled: “Harmony Among Religions, in the Service of Peace Among Countries.”

 

 The United Nations has announced unanimously in an unprecedented way, and in response to the Royal desire of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein the launching of the World Interfaith Harmony Week, which is marked every year on the first week of February.

 

The late Suha Qsous: A bountiful benevolence in death

 Qussous, who passed away last week and was buried in the village of Ader in Karak Governorate. As usual, requiem Masses are held for all the deceased, but Suha’s Mass was not ordinary, as the attendees were emotionally affected amid the tears welling their eye sand weeping. Then the voice of the priest in the church stated, “Brothers and sisters, please let us applaud this pious woman.” Perhaps it is one of the rare moments in which I called, or in which a priest calls for applause at the time of the requiem Mass.
