Press reports have indicated that on Monday and Tuesday, August 7-8, 2023, over 120 teachers of Christian education from various Christian schools in Jordan took part in a course designed to review the new curriculum relevant to ecumenical Christian education which was adopted by all Christian schools in Jordan.

This piece of news, disseminated from Jordan, has positive ramifications that are highly applauded by Christians, not only in Jordan but rather in various parts of the world. It rather crosses the borders of Jordan to reach the farthest points of the world.

This event, held at the Christian Education office in Jordan's Our Lady of Peace Centre, is quite remarkable as it portends well and reflects perspicacity on the part of Christian leaders in Jordan. Having a new curriculum relevant to ecumenical Christian education adopted by all Christian schools in Jordan implies setting the ground for further steps in the future leading to cementing Christian cohesion and upgrading understanding among the various Christian congregations in the Holy Land.

In a relevant event, it is also important to recall that the year 2023 marks the 48th anniversary of the unification of the date on which all the Churches and Christian communities in Jordan celebrate Christian feasts. In 1975, the heads of Christian Churches agreed to celebrate Christmas on December 25, according to the Gregorian calendar, while the Feast of the Resurrection (commonly referred to as Easter) is celebrated by all Christians according to the Julian calendar.

Christian Jordanians have to be proud of the fact that Jordan is currently the only country in the world where the two main Christian feasts are celebrated together by all the baptized. St. Paul said, "There is only one Christ, one baptism, one Lord." So why aren’t Christian holidays celebrated on the same day?

With the adoption of a new curriculum relevant to ecumenical Christian education in all Christian schools and the unification of Christian feasts in Jordan, the Christian Jordanians set a model to be emulated by Christians worldwide indicating that Christian unity is inevitable as it is rather in the offing. It is important in this regard to note that the ecclesiastical history abounds with those who seek to cement Christian unity.

May the Christians worldwide joyfully celebrate unity in the near future while recalling the Holy Bible's verse, “For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26-28)
