When people are in trouble, they refer to the divine power and even to those who disseminate the message of love as dictated by the Prince of Peace, Lord Jesus Christ, who sowed the seeds of love and later germinated into charity organizations such as Caritas Jordan.

Following the bleak days that followed the 1967 events in the Middle East and the state of instability that prevailed later, Caritas Jordan was born with the aim of turning the bleak nights into bright light days inspired by the divine power.

Caritas Jordan’s long tradition of working on behalf of the poor and vulnerable commenced in 1967 when it responded to the humanitarian needs of people fleeing the West Bank in the wake of the war that broke out at that time.

“Caritas” is a German word which means love. Thus, the message of Caritas worldwide is to disseminate love in the form of giving a helping hand to the needy at times of distress, which includes food and shelter among others.

Caritas Jordan has all the time worked tirelessly to fulfill its love message to the poor and needy by the good work of groups and individuals offering medical and humanitarian services. Its message is stipulated in serving and developing humans without distinctions in race, color, gender or religion. It has all the time been conveying invaluable service by assisting the poor and needy, providing primary medical services to mothers and children, assisting refugees and displaced in addition to victims of wars and disasters, working with governmental and voluntary corporations as well as with Caritas International members to achieve the desired goals.

The role played by Caritas Jordan during the past years has been pivotal and vital as it provided all kinds of humanitarian services to Iraqi and Syrian refugees who fled their homes, lost all hope in life, and found a save haven in Jordan.

KING ABDULLAH II BESTOWS ORDER OF AL ISTIQLAL ON CARITAS JORDAN

On the occasion of Jordan’s 73rd Independence Day, His Majesty King bestowed the Order of Al Istiqlal (Independence) of the first degree on Caritas Jordan, in appreciation for its unstinting charity work and community service in the healthcare, education, youth, and productive sectors over the past 50 years, as well as in appreciation of its efforts to provide shelter for the forcibly displaced and refugees from Iraq and Syria.
It is worthy to note that Caritas Jordan won the 2014 Caritas Award in Lucerne which confirms its high-standard performance represented in providing services to the forcibly displaced, the homeless and the needy people at all times particularly at times of war.

CARITAS JORDAN CONTRIBUTES TO EFFORTSTO COMBAT COVID-19

Caritas Jordan provided JD10,000 to the Ministry of Health in support of the Jordanian government's efforts to eliminate the Coronavirus pandemic.

At the time, Caritas Jordan Director Wael Suleiman said that Caritas Jordan shoulders its humane, moral and social responsibility towards the emergency health conditions that Jordan is going through. He pointed out that Caritas Jordan currently runs 12 medical centers in nine governorates across Jordan, and that it functions in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Development.

Furthermore, Caritas Jordan started, in cooperation with its partners Caritas Denmark and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, to work within a medical and logistical team to bring medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases from Caritas stores and accredited pharmacies which will consequently be delivered to the patients who number about 10,000. It also continued to provide medical services for emergency cases and to provide health awareness directives which are posted on its websites Caritas on daily basis.

With its unstinting efforts to combat the pandemic, Caritas Jordan provided 10 medical beds and 10 oxygen generators to the Jordanian Ministry of Health.

It is to be remembered all the time that what Caritas Jordan is giving is not to be called assistance but rather a ‘right’ confirming humans’ legitimate rights of living.
