The Almighty God is the great creator Who is qualified with perfection and nonpareil excellence. When He created Earth, He made a masterpiece of creation which people continuously depict in their paintings. Such paintings are mere representative of the divine beauty intended to demonstrate the glory of the Creater.
The question that arises frequently is that why does God allow some people to be born with disabilities? This is an intriguing question that needs an answer. The Holy Bible consistently describes God as all-powerful, all-knowing, as well as a good and merciful creator. It explains His desire to have a personal relationship with His creation and to work all things out for the good of those who follow Him. So long that all of this is true, then why does God allow people to be disabled or handicapped?
In people's brokenness, God reveals His glory and mercy to mankind. When Lord Jesus healed people, this gave evidence of the sovereignty of God. The various miracles carried out by Lord Jesus which include raising people from the dead, healing the sick and the paralyzed, and freeing people for demonic control are meant to manifest the glory and majestic nature of God Whom people need to seek all the time.
It is to be admitted the God values people with disabilities. This is evident in this verse: "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." (Gal 3:28 )
People are the same in the eyes of God. God does not differentiate among members of His family, so it seems to follow that under the Christian worldview, people with disabilities have the same value in the family of God as people without disabilities.
It is to be fairly admitted that the existence of disability cannot be used as an argument against the existence of a good God. Disability is apparently irrelevant in the eyes of the true God for He values people regardless of their condition.
In addition, God has a special plan for those who are considered lesser by worldly standards. On our own we are weak and insignificant. However, when we trust God, He is able to work through us. God uses the weak to accomplish great things in His name, even those with disabilities.
In conclusion, all human beings are made in God’s image while deserving life and dignity while people with disabilities need to read the Holy Bible seeking Jesus' help. God wants to heal people with disabilities so that men will give glory unto Him. (Romans 1:20).
In John 11:4, it clearly states that a purpose for healing is solely to bring glory to God. Jesus said: “ . . . ‘This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified by it.’” - John 11:4
This is furthermore made lucid in the Holy Bible that says, "As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”(John 9)
In other words, this reminds us that the young man born blind was not born that way due to his sin nor due to any sin of his parents. Rather he was born blind that the works of God might be displayed in and through his life. Sometimes God has displayed his works through healing; other times, more often in fact, he allows his power and glory to reside in and be displayed through the weakness of people .
We pray for people with disabilities saying, "Loving God, You make each living person in your image and likeness and present us as a gift and seed of love to the human race. We praise you, Lord, for all of your gifts." Amen.
