The Holy Bible states that the disciples came to Jesus and asked Him, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

In His response, Lord Jesus Christ summed up the way to the Kingdom of God by stating that humility is needed for the attainment of that goal. Children are known to be humble, pure and free from all thoughts and deeds leading to evil. So Lord Jesus wants us to have sound and humble thinking like those of the children as well as be free from mundane ambitions that lead to evil. Lord Jesus wants us to be born free of prejudice which is a quality we all need. He wants us to be totally open and free of prejudice when it comes to listening to God. In this case we are ready to receive everything that God wants us to have and to become everything God wants us to become.

Let us humble ourselves like children by realizing our needs, our lack, as well as forget our pride and realize as children that we are totally dependent, totally needy, and totally lost without the mercy of the Lord.

The Lord gives grace to the humble but He opposes the proud. No matter how one becomes successful or self-willed, the Holy Scriptures tell us that we are weak, that we are in great need, that we have hearts, minds, and wills set on God and His reign over us.

Jesus teaches the disciples there we need humility to realize that we need God. We are totally dependent upon Him. He holds our lives in His hands. Every breath we breathe is because He allows it and sustains us. When we have faith in Jesus we can then be called children of God.

Let us realize the will of Lord Jesus, be humble like the children, and follow His blessed teachings.
