Reviewing world affairs one realizes that several countries have over the time formed military alliances to activate participation and contribution to the defence of others in the alliance in the event of a crisis. So, in the event a nation is attacked, members of the alliance are often obligated to come to their defence regardless if attacked directly.
Days ago a different form of "a holy alliance" was formed. It is designed to join forces in the fight against different kinds of diseases and in helping the poor and sick, who have no access to medical treatment, to receive suitable treatment and care in various governorates in Jordan. It is divine message intended to lace the desperately sick people with love, mercy and compassion.
On Tuesday, November 9, 2021 an agreement was signed marking the launching of "a mobile clinic". The agreement to launch this clinic was signed by the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher represented by Ambassador Lorenzo Borghese, Director of Our Lady of Peace Center Fr. Shawqi Baterian, and Caritas Jordan Director Wael Suleiman.
This mobile clinic is destined to serve the local community in several governorates of the Kingdom in cooperation with Our Lady of Peace Center and Caritas Jordan whose medical teams will run the mobile clinic.
Actually the launching of this mobile clinic helps provide a practical solution and a relief to the sick people who either live in distant areas in Jordan who are incapable of going to hospitals, or to those who cannot meet the expenses of medical check-ups in public or private hospitals.
This step is worthy applause and appreciation because it is an expression of love and dedication to meeting human needs particularly with the emergence of the Corona pandemic and its various mutations.
This humanitarian step is reminiscent of the initiative to launch the "Pope Francis Hospital Ship "to help join the fight against Covid-19.
The “Pope Francis” ship, which set sail in July 2019, has provided much-needed help and care to numerous municipalities and communities along the Amazon River. While bringing medical equipment and assistance to coronavirus-hit communities along the Amazon River, the ship has been working miracles as well as bringing healing and hope to the river populations. It has so far delivered medical aid and assistance to over 700,000 members of coastal populations – many of them indigenous communities - in Brazil’s Amazon Rainforest.
Pope Francis had earlier noted that “the Church is called to be a field hospital", welcoming everyone, without distinction.” He added that with this initiative, the Church now also presents itself as a “hospital on water.”
"Like Lord Jesus, who appeared walking on water, calmed the storm and strengthened the disciples' faith, and this boat will bring spiritual comfort and serenity to the concerns of needy men and women, abandoned to their fate,” the Pope said at the time.
Furthermore, it is to noted that like Lord Jesus who walked in the various part our Earth healing the blind and the sick, so will the mobile clinic follow in the steps of the Prince of Peace and roam the various governorates of Jordan by bringing hope and comfort to the distressed people who find nowhere to go in search of healing and medical treatment.
Many thanks go to the Catholic Church, its affiliated charity organization-- Caritas Jordan--and the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher for taking this outstanding initiative to launch this mobile clinic which is a manifestation of love for humanity. Its launch also coincides with the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical "Fratelli tutti" which has a noble message of drawing broad lines for a life based on equality, cooperation, and brotherhood.
The message of love conveyed by the launching of the mobile clinic is an embodiment of the Lord Jesus' words Who said, " A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
