Religious abuse is condemned, and we do not accept any offence directed at any religious symbol by any side," Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media told "Rum" website in reaction to an insult directed by a journalist to the Almighty God through social networking sites in an attempt to abuse religious symbols and sow sedition.

Stressing that this is an abuse of religious symbols, Fr. Bader warned against following this trend at present because the situation in our Arab region is restive which could foment sedition among the components of the Arab society. On the other hand, as parliamentary elections will be held shortly, so we do not want this issue to serve as a catalyst for disputes among people to stir emotions of voters, he continued.

He added: "Abuse of religious symbols is condemned by all means, and we await dealing with this issue through the application of law. Since the government and the law are entitled to handle this issue, we await the issuance of a relevant legal decision. There is no comment on the culprit as his act is condemned." He pointed out that "this issue should not be disseminated because it is immoral and it hurts religious sentiments. We have to be cautious in order to preserve our national unity."

He continued: "We have recently encountered several crises of this kind, but what is important is that we followed logic by viewing them in the right perspective. The right perspective implies maintaining national unity and abstaining from fomenting religious strife. Assuming that the culprit is Christian, then this cannot be generalized to represent the Christians. This issue should be dealt with in the framework of law.''

He pointed out that the Jordanian state and the government have taken this issue into consideration and that a relevant legal and constitutional decision will be taken. Fr. Bader concluded his statement by calling for terminating discourses of hatred, as has been the case yesterday, because such behaviors are abhorrent to our norms. We have to be cautious as this issue provokes religious sentiments, since is the most important thing is to preserve our national unity and our social fabric.
