We Christians where to?
We Christians and Muslims, where to?
The general conditions in all of Palestine are deteriorating, or rather extremely deteriorating.
We address the Palestinian Authority saying: "It is its duty to correct the mistakes when committed. It is not the duty of individuals to do so. It is its duty to care for the generations to come, and it is its duty to develop curricula that instill in citizens the idea that they are all equal." We also address Hamas saying:"Muslims have the right and duty to learn the Islamic religion as is the case with Christians who have the right and duty to learn about Christianity. The social way of Muslims' life is a Muslims' affair, yet it is not possible to enforce the Muslims' social way of life on the Christians. Hamas has also the duty to consolidate equality among citizens as well as respect for the religious affiliations of citizens and for their freedom of their social life.
We Christians where to? This question is addressed to us, not to anyone else. What is our future? Do you keep it in our hands? Do we map it out with our own hands, or will someone else map it out for us if we give in it to fear or sectarianism? We will remain, and our future will be in tune with our wishes. That is why we must be what we are actually are, namely Christian citizens equal to all others. This is within our capabilities.
It could be reiterated that there are different forms of societal attacks which range from major political assaults, namely occupation, to attacks and mistakes committed within our society, as well as the resurgence of sectarianism instead of genuine and loving faith that respects believers no matter what their religions are.
We stress that our future is in our hands, and it should remain so. Yet, the deteriorating situation leaves our future in the hands of others. As we live our days, we call on all officials to make a review of the situation in order to be sincere to the future we seek and to our present time which is mixed with death. We call on Muslims and Christians to abstain from sectarianism. Genuine Muslims and genuine Christians are those who love one another because there are equal when created.
